Saturday

I went on a hike with the scouts on Saturday. I would have liked to finish it with them but my ankle had other plans. I rolled it at one point, which didn't feel good, but it wasn't until I got back home and sat for a minute that things got worse. I got up to take my kids to an early Easter activity and experienced the worst tendonitis pain ever. It was exquisite, and not in a good way. I got in to the doctor, who is a well respected orthopedic surgeon specializing in feet and ankles, on Monday. The prognosis is not good. I have no new injuries I just have a highly osteoarthritic ankle at age 29. I'll see him again in a few months to see if further surgeries would help or hopefully not needed. For now I have some heel risers I put in my shoes and 800 mg of ibuprofen 2-3 times a day. We'll see how it goes. I requested all my x-rays so I'll put up a post with all those when I get them, it is interesting to see bones with nicely spaced holes in them. The holes come from the brutal removing of the titanium screws in February.

  1. Ohhh this reads like a Shakespeare tragedy. 29? Maybe the bones will heal... You could ask the doctors about vitamins or supplements which might facilitate bone cell growth and healing.

    1. The possible surgery is a new one called "joint distraction" where they pull the joint apart and put in growth media that allows for some secondary cartilage and fibrous material to grow. It has been positive for most patients but the last thing I want is to go under the knife again. We'll see how it goes over the next few months. I may become a glucosamine junky.
