First workout since the surgery

I recently had an ankle surgery. 8 Years ago I fell rock climbing, took a 15-20 foot whipper into the wall I was climbing just to be clear, and shattered my ankle. I suffered what is called a pilon fracture, which means my talus (bone that supports the tibia) went up through my tibia and fibula. In order to put me back together 3 plates and 16 screws were installed in my lower leg.
Needless to say the ordeal was painful and even 8 years later I still feel a great deal of pain at times in addition to moderate to severe ankle inflexibility. So I got a consultation and the doctors told me it would be good to remove the hardware and also the bone spurs which had developed, unbeknownst to me. They think the bone spurs are the reason I have poor mobility and it should improve after the bone spurs are removed.

On February 15, 2012 I had the surgery and now nearly two weeks later I finally had a half decent decent workout. Before the surgery my best lifts were

Squat = 5RM 285 lbs
Press = 5RM 155 lbs
Deadlift = 5RM 295 lbs
Bench Press = 5RM 225 lbs

These were done at a body weight of ~205 lbs.

Yesterday March 3, 2012 my work sets were

Bench Press = 3x5 185 lbs
Deadlift = 1x5 225 lbs
Squat = 1x10 45 lbs (still working on ankle flexibility for this one, that and I have started working out at home and don't have collars. When I walk out from the rack the plates tend to slide around on me so I will get some collars this week)

I will post more on the surgery, showing x-rays and other stuff, another time.

  1. Very cool! Good luck to ya. I'm on a short-term routine of body pump 2x/week and ab ripper x 3x/week. And limited treats. Hahaha. Your ankle photo is cool ... in a slightly disturbing way.
